According to multiple reports, including one from News Channel 11’s Kenny Hawkins, East Tennessee State will name Desmond Oliver as their new head men’s basketball coach. A 3pm press conference has been scheduled for today.
Oliver has served as an assistant on Rick Barnes staff at the University of Tennessee for the past six seasons. The veteran coach has also worked at Charlotte, Georgia, Canisius, Rhode Island, St. Bonaventure, Cornell, Niagara, and Texas A&M.
He will become the second Tennessee assistant to become a head coach this off-season, joining Kim English, who took over at George Mason last month.
Oliver will replace Jason Shay, who resigned after just one season on the job.
More on this one later today after it becomes official.
