Interim Athletic Director Dr. Cindy Henning announced that DeWayne Saulsberry has been named the head coach for Laramie County Community College Men’s Basketball program.
Saulsberry has been officially named the fifth head coach in Laramie County Community College men’s basketball program history. Saulsberry served as Interim Head Men’s Basketball Coach during the 2020-21 season, leading the Golden Eagles to an 11-12 overall record and an 8-2 region record, winning Region IX North, and was named Region IX North Coach of the Year.
The Golden Eagles were one of the top-scoring teams in Region IX last season, averaging 88.4 points per game and shooting 42.2% from the three-point line. LCCC was led by Erik Oliver who led the region in scoring, averaging 20.9 points per game.
The Central City, Ky. native spent 13 seasons as an assistant at Laramie County Community College and helped the Golden Eagles to one of the program’s best seasons, winning 23 games during the 2016-17 season, finishing as Region IX runners-up.
The Golden Eagles won 210 games over Saulsberry’s time as an assistant coach at LCCC and have helped the Golden Eagles to five 20-win seasons.
Saulsberry played basketball at Jacksonville College before transferring to St. Catharine Junior College where he earned All-Conference honors. The Patriots were ranked 10th in the nation and went on to compete in the NJCAA tournament. Saulsberry then played Division I basketball at Southeast Missouri State University.
Saulsberry earned his bachelor’s degree in recreation at Southeast Missouri State University and his master’s degree in leadership from Liberty University. DeWayne and his wife, Danielle, have two children, Olivia and Sophia.
