Clarkson Men’s Basketball Adds Shiva Senthil to Coaching Staff

Clarkson University has announced the hiring of Shiva Senthil as the new assistant coach for the Men’s Basketball program for 2016-17.

Senthil, a 2014 graduate of Hartwick College with a degree in Business Administration, replaces Fran Brown, who served as the team’s top assistant for the past two years.

Senthil has spent the last three years as an assistant coach, first serving as a student assistant at his alma mater and helping guide the team to an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2013-14. He also played for the Hawks in previous seasons and helped the team reach the NCAAs on two other occasions in 2011 and 2012.

Senthil’s served as assistant coach at SUNY Purchase in 2015-16 as the Panthers enjoyed a four-game improvement to finish 13-13 overall and 11-9 in the Skyline Conference. Prior to his season at Purchase, Senthil coached for one year at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. Though the Wolves finished 11-19 in 2014-15, it was the second-best winning percentage in program history as the team improved by three victories from the previous year.

In addition to his years as an assistant coach, Senthil also volunteered his time in the city of Detroit while at UMD at the local YMCA, and spent time giving back at the Oneonta Boys and Girls Club along with other philanthropic endeavors from 2010-2014 when he was going to school at Hartwick.
