Longtime Pearl River CC (MS) head coach Richard Mathis has announced his retirement due to health reasons. Assistant coach Chris Oney has been named as his replacement.
Mathis spent 24 seasons at PRCC, and had led the Wildcats to seven MACJC State Championships. He is also a member of the PRCC Hall of Fame.
Oney, who was officially approved as the new head coach by the Board of Trustees yesterday, has spent the past five seasons at PRCC. He played at Ole Miss, and served as an assistant at Nicholls State, Louisiana-Monroe, and Grambling. Oney also spent time as the head coach at Carroll (La.) HS (60-15) and Grambling Lab HS (43-12).
