Coker College has named Elvis Kisonas as its assistant men’s basketball coach, Dr. Lynn Griffin, vice president of athletics and athletic facilities, announced today. Elvis joins the Cobras after spending the past three seasons at Mercer University, where he held the title of Director of Basketball Operations.
In his role at Mercer, Kisonas was responsible for coordinating the team’s daily activities, including team travel, meals, and logistics, and managing the team’s expenses and budget. Additionally, Kisonas helped organize and facilitate all Mercer University summer camps.
Prior to his time at Mercer, Kisonas spent three years at Gardner Webb University where he helped develop scouting reports, assisted the coaching staff with player development, and aided with the planning, organization, and execution of summer camps.
New head men’s basketball coach Jarred Merrill says, “Coach Kisonas and I have worked together for three years at Mercer. He brings all the qualities that a head coach looks for in an assistant; hard work, dedication, and loyalty! Coach is a rising star in our business and I know he’s going to do great things in his career. I am extremely blessed to have him in our program.”
Elvis is originally from Kaunas, Lithuania, and moved to the United States permanently with his family when he was eight years old. He earned his Bachelor’s of Science degrees in psychology and sport management from Gardner Webb University, and a Masters of Education in higher education leadership degree from Mercer University with a perfect 4.0 GPA.
