D2 DIRT: Angelo State set to hire current D2 head coach

Story: Adam Nelson (@HD_DirtKing)

I can confirm that D2 Angelo State (TX) will hire Vinay Patel as their new head men’s basketball coach.

Patel has served as the head coach at Northwestern Oklahoma State since 2019. This past season, he led the Rangers to a 20-9 (15-7 GAC) record. Prior to his time at NWOSU, he spent four seasons as the head coach at Oklahoma City University, where he went 82-42 (.661). Patel was named as the SAC and Oklahoma Sports Net Coach of the Year in 2018 – his team was ranked #8 in the nation, and finished with a 24-9 record.

The Texas native also spent time as an assistant at Rogers State, and served as the interim head coach at West Texas A&M in 2013-14.

Patel will replace Cinco Boone, who became an assistant at Texas Arlington earlier this spring.

An official announcement is expected shortly.
