I can confirm that D2 Belmont Abbey (NC) will name Army assistant David Belfield as their new head men’s basketball coach. He will replace Dan Ficke, who took over at Metro State back in late April.

Belfield had been on the Army staff since 2019, and served as the Black Knights recruiting coordinator. Prior to his time at West Point, he worked as a graduate assistant at Charlotte.

Belfield, a North Carolina native, is no stranger to the D2 level. He played at USC Aiken, and worked as an assistant there for two seasons following his playing days.

An official announcement is expected this week.
