D2 DIRT: UTPB set to hire UAM’s Tolin as new Head Coach

Story: Adam Nelson (@HD_DirtKing)

I have heard from multiple sources that the University of Texas Permian Basin will hire University of Arkansas Monticello’s Kyle Tolin as their new head men’s basketball coach. Tolin has already informed his team of the decision, and an official announcement is expected shortly. He will replace Josh Newman, who took a D1 assistant job on the West Coast a few weeks ago.

Tolin had been the head coach at UAM since 2014, where he put together a 108-89 (.548) mark. Since 2016-17, his teams have won 93 games (18.6/wins per yr). Last season, the Boll Weevils went 16-4 and captured the program’s first-ever GAC Championship Tournament title.

Before being hied at UAM, Tolin spent ten seasons as an assistant on his father Doug’s staff at Oklahoma Baptist University.

More on this move when it becomes official.
