Daily Dirt – 3/18/22

Story: Adam Nelson (@HD_DirtKing)

What a great day of basketball yesterday. Can’t wait to see what today brings. Here are a few things to close out the week…

I mentioned this one yesterday. Archie Miller to URI is now DONE according to multiple reports. Official announcement coming shortly.

I’ve been talking about this one for a while, including on Episode #3 of Hoop Talk earlier this week. Chris Crutchfield to OMAHA is DONE. Crutchfield, an Omaha alum, has had an interesting journey since 2018 – assistant at Oklahoma (18-19), assistant Arkansas (19-20), head coach D2 East Central (20-21), assistant coach Oregon (21-22), head coach Omaha (22-23). I should buy stock in his moving company.

A name to watch at Sacramento State is David Grace. The former UCLA, Cal, and Vandy assistant also spent one season on the bench at Sacramento State in 2006-07.

In yesterday’s DAILY DIRT, I mentioned that a D3 head coach was “squarely in the mix” at Maine. Now, it sounds like Colby head coach Damien Strahorn could actually be the leader here. He has been at Colby for the past 11 season, and did spend 4 years at the D1 level as an assistant at Columbia.

Some names that I’ve heard in the search at D2 Missouri Southern State include Purdue assistant Paul Lusk (former head coach at Missouri State), Southern Missouri assistant Sam McMahon, K-State assistant Chris Lowery, former South Dakota head coach Todd Lee, and a current D2 head coach from the south region.

The search at D2 Anderson is moving quickly. I’ve heard that Zoom interviews will take place next week with eight-ish candidates. Names that I have heard have all been either current D2 or NAIA head coaches. More names here soon.
