Daily Dirt – 3/17/22

Story: Adam Nelson (@HD_DirtKing)

How about Notre Dame vs Rutgers yesterday? What a game. If that’s any indication of what’s to come, these next three weeks will be insane! Here’s today’s St. Patrick’s Day Edition of the Daily Dirt…

Multiple reports have former Indiana head coach Archie Miller as the leader at URI. Miller knows the league, as he spent 2011-17 as the head coach at A10 foe Dayton.

I keep hearing the same names at Lafayette – Minnesota assistant Marcus Jenkins, Hartford head coach John Gallagher, and two D3 head coaches from New England who have been D1 assistants. Working on more…

Early names at Xavier include former Musketeer head coaches Chris Mack and Sean Miller, as well as C of C head coach Pat Kelsey (a former Xavier associate head coach & Cincinnati native). Crazy early here though.

Coaches getting votes of confidence/returning next season from yesterday: Dan D’Antoni (Marshall), Kermit Davis (Ole Miss), and Zac Claus (Idaho).

Speaking votes of confidence…Evansville AD Mark Spencer is out. He gave head coach Todd Lickliter the infamous VOC back on 2/25. Will be interesting to see how this plays out…

The search at D3 Aurora is nearing an end. I’ve heard Northern Illinois assistant Steve Christiansen’s name mentioned here a bunch of times. Not sure on other names, but hearing a new coach will be in place shorty.

Some names that I’ve heard at D2 Metro State Denver include Cochise head coach Jerry Carillo, former New Mexico Highlands head coach Joe Harge, and a current D2 head coach from the south with ties to the area. Also, 4 billion D1 assistants chasing it.

The search at Maine is an odd one. A lot of really qualified guys not getting calls back, and now hearing a D3 HC is squarely in the mix. I can’t believe they would go that route again, but stay tuned…

Word on the street is that D3 Amherst College assistant Joe Busacca will become the new head coach at New England prep The Hotchkiss School (CT). Last year was Busacca’s first at Amherst – he had previously served as the head coach at D3 Curry College (2018-21).

I’ve heard the the search at D3 Thomas College is flying. Multiple people have told me that most of the candidates are former TC players. More here soon.

A really (really) good NAIA in the midwest about to open. A good D2 out west-ish as well.
