Getting busy this week. A few things that I’ve heard….
Interesting press release from Binghamton yesterday where they announced Levell Sanders as their new head coach. There was no mention of “interim” in his title, even though after Tommy Dempsey was not retained last week, the University announced that Sanders would serve as the interim and a search would take place following the 2021-22 season. I have now confirmed that Sanders is in fact the interim head coach, and Binghamton is still planning a post-season search as previously announced.
Heard this one a few days ago…I didn’t realize that former Marist head coach Mike Maker had served as a volunteer assistant at the University of St. Thomas (MN) this past year. The veteran coach has also served as the head coach at D3 Williams College, and as an assistant at Creighton, West Virginia, Samford, and Dartmouth. Not a bad volunteer assistant. This is a very interesting spot, since UST will be making the jump from D3 to D1 next season. The Tommies will be looking to hire assistants to help with the jump – I’ll have those job postings up shortly. *UPDATE: Both FT assistant jobs are now posted HERE.*
Search updates…Richard Sander from TopConnect will serve as an advisor on the search at Jacksonville. Also, I have heard from a few guys that Kyle Bowlsby is helping with the Indiana State search (which seems to be progressing quickly already).
As promised last night, here are a few small college updates…
I can confirm through great sources that D3 Pratt Institute (NY) head coach Max Sass has resigned. Sass took over at Pratt back in 2017, and had previously been a graduate assistant at Hofstra, and an assistant at Wesleyan, and Bard. No word yet as to when the job will be posted.
JWU Charlotte is in the final stages of their search for a new head basketball coach. The Wildcats will be making the move from the USCAA to D3 – next season will be their first in the four year process. According to multiple sources, the four finalists are: Dominic Parker (assistant coach Guildford College), Matt Johnson (assistant coach UNT Dallas – former JWU assistant), Josh Gross (assistant coach Belmont Abbey), and a current small college administrator. I have also heard that the decision has been made – will run with the name once I triple confirm.
