Daily Dirt – 3/10/16 (DI Search Updates)

Some things that I’ve heard on a few current searches…

  • Santa Clara: It’s early in the search to replace Kerry Keating, but the process is moving quickly.  I have heard from multiple sources on this one, and the same three names keep coming up: Lloyd Pierce (assistant coach Philadelphia 76ers – Santa Clara alum), Herb Sendak (former head coach – Arizona State and NC State), and Damon Stoudamire (assistant coach Memphis).  More on this one as I hear it.
  • San Francisco: Obviously super early on this one as Rex Walters was just released yesterday, but the name that is on fire here is former UCLA and St. John’s head coach Steve Lavin.  He is a San Francisco native who played nearby Sir Francis Drake High School.  Also, Lavins father Cap played at USF in the 1950’s, and is a member of the schools Hall of Fame.  Lavin is also rumored to be involved at UNLV, so it will be interesting to see how this plays out.
  • Arkansas State: Last week, I published a list of candidates at Arkansas State (Arkansas State Dirt).  Word on the street is that interviews have started there and in addition to the names on the original list, there are a few others involved.  I’ve heard they are: Kurtis Townsend (assistant coach Kansas), Steve Henson (assistant coach Oklahoma), and Grant McCasland (assistant coach Baylor).  I’ve also heard that a current DI head coach is involved as well.
  • Drexel: Parker Executive Search is running this one and I’ve heard that they plan on bringing guys in over the next few days.  There are a bunch of names floating around and they are all coaches from great academic schools.  In addition to a few high major assistants, there are a some high academic DI head coaches on the list.

I’ve got good stuff on Pacific and Central Connecticut, and will hope to get those updates posted in the next few days. Also, I expect 2-3 more jobs to open up today and tomorrow – stay tuned…
