Daily Dirt – 3/8/17

Some things that I’ve heard today…

  • Last week, I published a list of early Austin Peay names. I’ve now heard that VCU assistant coach Wes Long, former Tennessee associate head coach Tony Jones, and Northwest Florida head coach Steve DeMeo can be added to the list. Multiple sources tell me that Long is the one to watch here.
  • The ink is not even dry yet on Tom Moore’s dismissal at Quinnipiac, but names are already starting to emerge surrounding the search which will be handled by DHR. Some early names that I’ve heard are: Albany head coach Will Brown, Vermont head coach John Becker, and Iona associate head coach Jared Grasso (a Quinnipiac alum). Sounds like this could be one of the highest paying jobs in the MAAC, and with their facilities, could be a gold mine.
  • Keep an eye on the MAC. Where there’s smoke, there’s fire…
  • I have heard from a great source that Bryan Zollinger is out as the head coach at Seward County (KS). They struggled to a 9-22 record this season, but this is a big-time NJCAA DI gig in the Jayhawk West Conference. Zollinger entered the 2016-17 season with a 218-85 record in his 9 seasons at the school. More here when it becomes official.
  • I can confirm that Jesse Dixon has accepted an assistant spot at Central Maine CC. He spent last season on the staff at Maine Presque Isle.
