Daily Dirt – 4/16/18

The DirtKing, DirtQueen, and all of the little DirtBags are headed to sunny South Florida for the week. I’ll have my lap top and phone on the beach, but will have to have some family time as well (bosses orders). There will be plenty of updates, but for the most up-to-date info, make sure you are following HoopDirt.com on Twitter (@HoopDirt).  I’ll jam stuff up there first if I’m crunched for time.  Here are a few things that I’ve heard as we prepare to leave snowy New England…

Phil Beckner has resigned as the associate head coach at Boise State. Beckner had spent the past two seasons on Leon Rice’s staff, and also spent time as an assistant at Nebraska, Weber State, and in the G-League.

It sounds like the search for a new head coach at DII Seton Hill College (PA) is about to wrap up. The names that I have heard who are in the final group are: Lynn University (FL) associate head coach Tae Norwood, Navy assistant coach Jeromy Yetter, and Regis College (MA) head coach Nathan Hagar. It sounds like an announcement will be made this week.

Longtime Broward College (FL) head coach Bob Starkman has resigned. He had spent the past 21 years at Broward, 4 as the head women’s coach, and the past 17 as the men’s coach. Word on the street is that he may join Dante Calabria’s staff at Keiser University.

I have heard that The College of the Desert (CA) will name Mt. San Jacinto (CA) associate head coach Trent Skinner as their next head coach. Skinner played at College of the Desert, and was coached there by current Mt. San Jacinto head coach Patrick Springer.

There’s a fairly bogus list of candidates at Southern New Hampshire bouncing around out there. At this point, SNHU has narrowed a very large field to 30, and will trim it even further in the coming week with an open timeline. Any list that people have been emailing and texting with spelling mistakes is not 100% accurate. There are definitely a bunch of DI assistants with New Hampshire ties involved though. More on this one when it gets pared down.

Spoon River College (IL) will be bringing back basketball after a long hiatus. I have heard that the NJCAA DII job will be a part time one, but they do have a new gym and dorms. HoopDirt.com will have the job posted shortly.

On the flip side of that, DIII Mt. Ida College (MA) is closing it’s doors. Brian Cerone, who just completed his first year as the head coach of the Mustangs, and his entire staff will be out of jobs at the end of this semester.

ICYMI: From this weekend…Wisconsin Stout has made their choice with an announcement expected this week. More HERE.
