Daily Dirt – 4/19/23

The search at UIW is moving quickly. I can confirm that after initial interviews, the pool has been cut to seven, with 1 or 2 coming to campus very shortly. The names that I’ve heard include, Arkansas assistant Gus Argenal, LSU assistant Ronnie Hamilton, Central Michigan assistant Shane Heirman, Santa Clara assistant Jason Ludwig, two current D2 head coaches, and one current HBCU D1 head coach. More on this when the list gets paired down.

Over the weekend, I mentioned some names at Nicholls State (SEARCH UPDATE). I’ve now heard that Ole Miss Associate AD for Men’s Basketball Stacy Hollowell is also involved. Last year was his first at Ole Miss after capturing the 2021-22 NAIA National Championship as the head coach at Loyola (NO). I’ve also heard that there is a high major assistant (not mentioned in update) lurking. Stay tuned…

I’ve heard that Jeff Rafferty will join Monte Ross’ new staff at North Carolina A&T as the associate head coach. Rafferty, who has previously worked for Ross at Delaware, spent last season at Hartford. The veteran coach has also worked as an assistant at NJIT, UNH, Texas Pan American, and UMass Lowell. An official announcement is expected shortly.

ICYMI from last night…new Northwestern State head coach Rick Cabrera will hire Anthony Figueroa as his associate head coach. Figueroa was most recently the head coach at D3 North Central College (IL), and had previously worked with Cabrera at Lackawanna College. Full report from last night –> D3 DIRT.

It sounds like Zoom’s are underway at D3 Rhode Island College. Sounds like 8-10 coaches will be interviewed in this round. Names that I’ve heard include Emerson College associate head coach Jack Barrett, former Holy Cross assistant Sam Ferry, at least two current D3 head coaches, one local D1 assistant, and possibly one former D1 head coach. More on this one shortly.

Former Arkansas State assistant Casey Stanley has been named as the boys basketball coach at Layton Christian Academy in Utah. He has also worked at Iona, UNCW, Minnesota, Florida International, Louisville, and Seton Hall.
