Daily Dirt – 4/10/15

Some Friday “dirt”…

  • I can confirm through multiple sources that Tony Sheals is no longer the head coach at DII Virginia Union.  Sheals was hired last April after spending the previous season as the head coach at Saint Augustine’s University.  He has also been the head coach at Delaware State and Bethune-Cookman.  VUU went 10-17 this pas season.  No word yet on why he is out.
  • I have heard from a great source that Tom Rose will be named as the next head coach at DIII Goucher (MD).  Rose is a Goucher alum who has spent the past twelve seasons as the head coach at Our Lady of Mount Carmel HS (MD).  Before taking the reigns at OLMC, he was the associate head coach at his alma mater.  The official announcement is expected shortly.
  • The search at Tallahassee CC has been trimmed to ten candidates.  It sounds like interviews will conclude on Monday, and that a decision will be made as early as Tuesday.  Two names that I have recently heard as being involved here are Rick Cabrera (assistant coach Tennessee Tech), and USC administrative staffer Joey Cantens (a Florida native who was also with USC head coach Andy Enfield at Florida Gulf Coast).
