Daily Dirt – 4/17/15

A few quick hitters as we roll into the weekend…

  • Minnesota head coach Richard Pitino will bump up DBO Nate Pomeday to assistant coach.  He will replace Dan McHale who became the head coach at Eastern Kentucky last week.  Pomeday joined Pitino’s staff last summer after a six year stint as an assistant at Oregon State.  He played at Big Ten rival Northwestern.
  • Long-time Glendale CC (CA) head coach Brian Beauchemin has officially retired.  In November, he took a medical leave of absence after undergoing hip surgery.  Beauchemin had been the head coach at the school since 1979, and racked up 592 career wins.  It sounds like Long-time assistant Vigen Jilizian (who coached the team last year) will remain as the head coach going forward.
  • Speaking of California JC’s…I have heard that Cosumnes River College head coach James Giacomazzi is departing and will become the head coach at Las Positas College (CA).  Giacomazzi had been at CRC for the past ten seasons and was an assistant at San Jose City College before that.
