Daily Dirt – 5/19/15

Here are a bunch of things that I’ve heard…

  • Kim English will be headed to Tulsa to join Frank Haith’s staff as an assistant.  English played at Missouri for Haith in 2011-12, and was a 2nd round pick by the Pistons in the 2012 NBA Draft.  He has been playing overseas since then.  The official announcement is expected next month.
  • Last week, I mentioned that it sounded like Carlton Owens and Michael Cotton would be joining Al Skinner at Kennesaw State (Daily Dirt – 5/12/15).  According to two separate sources, including our friends over at The Owl Howl, Thomas University (GA) head coach Stephen Cox will be the third guy hired by Skinner.  Cox is a Georgia guy who has also been an assistant at Savannah State, Mercer, and Georgia Southwestern.  I have heard that the official announcement won’t be made until June 1st.
  • Multiple sources have told me that NJIT Director of Basketball Operations Jared Czech is the front runner to replace Josh King as the director of the Elite Camp at the Hoop Group.  King recently accepted an assistant spot at Randolph-Macon.  Czech has also worked as a graduate manager at the University of Denver.
  • It sounds like Georgia Highlands assistant JJ Merritt will become an assistant at Shorter University (GA).  Merritt is a Shorter alum who scored over 2,200 points in his career, and in 2009 was inducted into the Shorter Athletic Hall of Fame.
  • I can confirm that new Marian (IN) head coach Carson Harris will hire Tim Adams as an assistant.  Adams is a Marian alum who has most recently worked at Indianapolis Central HS.
  • I have heard from a good source that Nebraska-Kearney will hire Devin Eighmey as a full-time assistant.  He was most recently an assistant at Northwest Missouri State, and has also worked at William Jewell, and Peru State.
