Daily Dirt – 7/2/18

Some things that I’ve heard as we roll in to July…

  • Back on 6/14, I mentioned that new Delaware State AD D. Scott Gines was leaning towards keeping Keith Johnson on as the interim head basketball coach. I have now heard that as many as eight candidates interviewed for the position last week. I have five of the names – waiting on confirmation of the others. Will publish the list later today.

  • I have heard that Evans Davis will be added to Montez Robinson’s staff at Alcorn State. Davis was the head coach at DII Armstrong State from 2013-2017, and served as an assistant there from 2009-13. An official announcement is expected shortly.

  • It sounds like NAIA Edward Waters College (FL) will hire Talledega’s Fredrick Summers as their new head basketball coach. Last year was Summers first at TC, he had previously been the head women’s basketball coach at Concordia College (AL) where he won a USCAA National Championship in 2016-17. He will replace Frank Burnell who became the head coach at Florida State College at Jacksonville back in early June.

  • I have heard from a great source that DIII Lesley University has offered their men’s basketball job to former Holy Cross head coach Bill Raynor. He was the Crusaders head coach from 1994-1999, and also served as an assistant at Harvard and Brown. Most recently, he spent 12-seasons as the head coach at MassBay CC (MA), where he won four Region XXI titles. More on this when it becomes official.

  • It sounds like DIII Thomas College (ME) will officially announce their new head coach any day. I have heard that the new head coach is a current DIII assistant from the HCAC. More here shortly.

  • A few college guys headed to the HS level…

ο Mike Jarvis II has been named as the head coach at Greens Farms Academy (CT). He has worked at the DI level at George Washington, Drexel, St. John’s, Duke and Florida Atlantic.

ο St. Martins University (WA) associate head coach Dave Granucci has become the head coach at Justin-Siena HS (CA). Before joining the St. Martins staff, Granucci was an assistant at San Francisco State, and also spent time as the head coach at the College of Marin (CA).
