Daily Dirt – 8/4/17

Some things that I’ve heard…

  • Last night, I published an update on the search that’s winding down at San Jose State (San Jose State Dirt). I mentioned one of the finalists as being a former NBA player who is a current DI head coach. That’s incorrect – he’s actually a DII head coach. I’m now hearing that an announcement could come as early as today, but presser will definitely take place on Monday. **UPDATE: Complete list of finalists can be found here: San Jose State Dirt II: The Finalists**

  • Word on the street is that Keuka College (NY) assistant coach Evan Kee will become the next head coach at The Apprentice School (VA) (USCAA). Kee has been at Keuka since 2015, and has also worked at Elmira, Marymount, and Christopher Newport.

  • I have heard from a great source that Jarvis Christian College (TX) will promote assistant Chris Avery to head coach. He will replace former head coach Chevis Thompson who departed to become as assistant coach at Frank Phillips College (TX). Avery has worked as an assistant at JCC for the past three seasons.

  • I have heard that Concordia College (AL) has found a replacement for former head coach Fredrick Summers who became the head coach at Talladega College back in June. I have been told that the Hornets will hire former Vorhees College (SC) head coach Andre Williams. During his five seasons at VC, Williams went 96-60, and won two conference champions.

  • How about Calvary Chapel HS (Las Vegas) hiring former Baylor head coach Dave Bliss?? Sheesh…

  • Reggie Freeman has been hired as an assistant coach at Hutchinson CC (KS). Freeman is the 4th all-time leading scorer at Texas (1,969 points) who played professionally overseas from 1997-2009 (guys who are my age know him as “Hi Five”). He spent last season as an assistant at Missouri West Plains, and has also worked at Eastern Florida. Freeman replaces Cortland Carney who resigned earlier this summer.

  • I have heard that Loyola University New Orleans assistant coach Ryan Brock has resigned to take a job outside of coaching. Brock had been on the Wolf Pack staff for the past three seasons. No word yet on a replacement.
