Daily Dirt – 9/19/17

A bunch of things that I’ve heard…

  • Hawaii Pacific has hired Craig Stanger as an assistant coach. He had served as the women’s basketball coach at BYU-Hawaii since 2013, and also spent six seasons as the head men’s coach at Western Oregon. BYU-Hawaii discontinued their athletics program after this past season.

  • Former Toledo head coach Stan Joplin will be named as the head coach at Sylvania Southview HS (OH). He will replace former Alabama associate head coach Bob Simon who is headed to Maine (MAINE DIRT). Joplin compiled a 202-156 record in his 12 seasons at Toledo (1996-2008).

  • Springfield Tech CC (MA) has narrowed the field down to three finalists for their vacant men’s basketball position. It sounds like a decision could be made here by the end of the week.

  • Wisconsin La Crosse is on the hunt for an interim head coach after former head coach Ken Koelbl resigned late last week. It sounds like phone interviews could start as early as the end of this week, with on campus interviews coming right after that. With the season right around the corner, look for this to move quickly.

  • Some changes on the staff at Phoenix College (AZ)…Assistant Duane Eason has taken the head coaching job at Mountain Pointe HS (AZ) and assistant Lucas Ramirez has taken a coaching job at his alma mater Horizon HS (AZ). Mario Malaby will be added to the PC coaching staff after spending the last few years at Metro Tech HS in Phoenix.

  • Bates College (ME) has added Trey Morin to the men’s basketball staff. He was an assistant coach at Colby-Sawyer College last season and has also worked as a graduate assistant at Merrimack College.

  • Jeff Hinshaw has been named as an assistant coach at Missouri S&T. He spent last season as an assistant at Fort Scott CC, and served as an assistant at William Woods University before that.
