Denver hires Cory Dixon as Assistant Basketball Coach

The University of Denver men’s basketball program has named former East Tennessee State assistant coach Cory Dixon tothe same positionon its staff, second-year head coach Tim Bergstraser announced on Tuesday.

Dixon is fresh off a 2025-26 campaign where he helped lead the Bucs to a 23-11 mark and a trip to the SoCon Men’s Basketball Championship game. In Dixon’s two seasons in Johnson City, ETSU posted a 42-24 record and won a SoCon regular season title. 

“We are very excited to bring Cory and his family to Denver,” Bergstraser said. “Cory brings a wide variety of coaching and professional knowledge from several different levels into our program. His recruiting efforts will instantly impact the program along with his ability to build relationships with current and incoming players. Cory’s experiences will be great for us, and what we are building here at DU, as we move into the WCC.

Prior to his time at East Tennessee State, Dixon coached a season as an assistant at his alma mater, the University of New Orleans. Dixon’s other coaching stops include a stint as a Player Development Assistant and Video Coordinator with the Birmingham Squadron, the NBA G League affiliate of the New Orleans Pelicans.

As a player, Dixon averaged 11.1 points and 6.4 rebounds in two seasons at New Orleans, earning All-Southland honors in the 2013-14 campaign. Following his collegiate career, Dixon played professionally in Australia, Belgium, England and Canada. Dixon earned his bachelors degree from New Orleans interdisciplinary studies.
