Word on the street is that the search at Drake is getting close to wrapping up. It sounds like the top two here are South Dakota head coach Craig Smith and Furman head coach Nike Medved. I have also heard that current interim head coach Jeff Rutter could still be in the mix.

Smith has been the head coach at South Dakota since 2014. He has also served as an assistant at Nebraska, and was the NAIA National Coach of the Year in 2007 as the head coach at Mayville State. He led the Coyotes to a 22-12 record this past season.

Medved, a former assistant at Colorado State, took over the Furman program back in 2013. His Paladin squad went 22-11 this season, and his record has improved in each of his four campaigns.

Rutter took over back in December after Ray Giacoletti was dismissed. He has been at Drake for the past four seasons, and has also been an assistant at Iowa State and Northern Iowa.

There is some speculation that this could be done in the next 24 hours. More on this as soon as I hear it.
