Former Director of Player Development Elevated to Assistant Coach at Duquesne University

Duquesne University head men’s basketball coach Jim Ferry announced today that Brian Baudinet, who has been a member of the basketball staff for the past two seasons, has been elevated to assistant coach.

Baudinet replaces Brian Nash who accepted the director of basketball position at IMG Academy last week.

“In his two years here, Brian Baudinet has shown that he has one of the bright young minds in college basketball,” said Ferry. “It was obvious to me that he earned the opportunity to take on assistant coach responsibilities. Brian has a great feel for player development, game preparation, recruiting and on-floor coaching. His wide-range of experience combined with his feel for the game, will make him a real asset to our staff.”

Baudinet, who spent the 2013-14 season as an assistant coach with the NBA Developmental League Tulsa 66ers, was named the Dukes’ director of men’s basketball administration in August of 2014. He assumed the title of director of player development prior to the 2015-16 season.

While with Tulsa – the affiliate of the NBA Oklahoma City Thunder – Baudinet was involved with all aspects of coaching in addition to assisting extensively with player development both on the floor and through individual video sessions.

The 30-year-old Baudinet began his coaching career as an assistant at Division III Trinity College in Hartford, Conn. where he coached for three seasons. He then moved on to an assistant position at Division II American International College in Springfield, Mass. where he coached through October of 2013.

Baudinet was a standout baseball player at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst prior to graduating with a history degree in 2010. A two-time captain as a outfielder, Baudinet holds the Atlantic 10 record for home runs in a game with four vs. George Washington in 2010. He finished his career ranked among the UMass Top 5 in six statistical categories.

Baudinet, who attended Taft High School in Watertown, Conn., began his college career at the University of Rochester where he was part of the varsity basketball team for one season prior to transferring to UMass.
