University of Denver men’s basketball newly appointed head coach Tim Bergstraser has hired former IU Indy (formally IUPUI) men’s basketball assistant Scott Gauthier as the program’s Director of Basketball Operations, Bergstraser announced.
“Our program is very excited to bring Scott within our staff,” Bergstraser said. “He has a wide variety of experience at the Division I level and fits how we want to operate here at DU. His work ethic, player evaluation, ability to connect with players and knowledge of the game will be a great benefit to our family.”
Gauthier spent a season at IU Indy as an assistant after a year as an assistant and the Director of Basketball Operations at Lindenwood. Prior to his time at the DI level, Gauthier spent seven seasons as an assistant at the University of Missouri – St. Louis (NCAA Division II).
In his time with the Tritons, the program made three NCAA Tournament appearances, including a trip to the national quarterfinals in the 2022-23 season. In total, Gauthier and the Tritons finished 135-70 in his seven seasons on staff.
“I am appreciative of this opportunity to join Coach Bergstraser and the rest of the coaching staff at the University of Denver,” Gauthier said. “I am excited to be part of his inaugural DU staff and look forward to assisting Coach Bergy in executing his vision of taking DU basketball to new heights. It is an honor to be a part of a prestigious academic institution with rich history of athletic success in the Mile High City, and I’m ready to get started.”
In the 2018-19 campaign, UMSL got to the 20-win plateau for the first time in 28 years. A year later, the Tritons posted a program-best record of 27-6 which earned UMSL its first NCAA Tournament bid after clinching a share of the GLVC title.
Prior to his time in St. Louis, Gauthier spent nine seasons as an assistant coach at Webster Groves (Mo.) High School. During his time with the Statesmen, he helped guide the team to a 218-41 (.930) record, which included nine Suburban South Conference championships, three district championships, two state quarterfinal appearances and the 2008 Missouri Class 5 state championship.
Gauthier completes Bergstraser’s inaugural staff that also includes associate head coach Spenser Bland and assistants Kyle Heikkinen and Abe Woldeslassie, who were named to their positions last month. FULL RELEASE
