Gayler steps down at NAIA Brescia; Karn named Interim Head Basketball Coach

The Brescia University Athletic Department announces the addition of Interim Head Coach, Matt Karn, as he takes the helm of the Men’s Basketball program for the 2024-25 season.

Matt Karn, an Ohio County native, was an assistant coach for the Bearcats from the 2021-23 season where he assisted in player recruitment and development. Coach Karn brings a slew of instructing/coaching experience since 2009 when he was a camp instructor at Nebraska University as a graduate student-athlete. He also played and assisted in the Kentucky Mavericks organization for a year before moving to the Owensboro Thoroughbreds in 2018. Prior to coming back to Brescia, Karn had been in Cleveland, OH continuing to coach and spread his high work ethic to the youth.

Coach Gayler, the previous head coach, accepted a job opportunity to expand her experience in the FIBA organization.

“We hate to see Sarah go, but we know that she is improving her coaching repertoire with this career move”, AD Mark Perdue states.
