UAFS men’s basketball coach Justin Bailey has announced the recent hiring of Duston Green as assistant coach.

Green, a Fort Smith native, joins the men’s basketball staff after previously serving as UAFS assistant women’s basketball coach for the past two seasons. He will be in charge of post player development.

“When going through the search of finding assistant coaches, one of the main priorities for me was having people I can trust. Duston is a guy I can trust and I know will have my back,” Bailey said. “On top of that, he has a very good Xs and Os mind that will be very beneficial to our success. He is workaholic and will make sure our guys develop to be the best players they can be.”

As assistant women’s basketball coach, Green helped lead the Lady Lions to a 37-24 overall record and a 20-10 overall Heartland Conference record. During those two seasons, the Lady Lions qualified for the conference tournament and finished conference tournament runner-up last season, earning a berth in the NCAA Division II National Tournament.

He helped coach six All-Conference players over the past two seasons and one All-Region player.

Green is a 2004 graduate of Northside High School, where he was a team captain on the Grizzlies basketball team. He helped lead Northside to its first undefeated conference championship in 30 years and its last since 2004. He played college basketball at Central Baptist College and is a graduate of Arkansas Tech University.

Green served as a volunteer assistant basketball coach at Fort Smith’s Darby Junior High in 2007 and at Northside High School 2007-13, during which time the Lady Bears won two state championships.

Prior to joining the UAFS staff, he also was the coach of the Arkansas Mavericks AAU basketball team for nine years.
