Holbrook Added to Dawson CC Basketball Staff

The Dawson Buccaneers basketball program added a new assistant coach to their staff.  Eric Holbrook joins the Bucs after spending the past two years at Dickinson State University as an assistant basketball coach, head JV coach and Director of Campus Life.

Dawson Head Coach Joe Peterson commented, “We are really pleased to add Coach Holbrook to our staff.  He has great experience as a player and as an assistant.  Having played for and coached under some outstanding coaches, he will bring a different perspective that will be a great benefit to us.  His basketball understanding, great work ethic and relationships with players will help our program develop considerably.”

Before Dickinson State, Holbrook spent four seasons as an assistant coach for Spokane Community College where he has helped lead the program to 77 wins during his time on the sideline. He was an integral part of the success of the program. During his time there, he helped guide the program to the NWAC Championship tournament each year and finished in 5th place one year, and in 3rd place another year.

Holbrook also played for Spokane Community College and was a two year starter for the program. He helped the program win one Eastern Region title; and in his sophomore year his team finished 3rd overall in the NWAC Championships.  After graduating from Spokane, Eric went onto play at NCAA D2 Western Oregon University. In high school, he won a state championship at Priest River Lamanna High School in Idaho.

A good familiarity with the Northwest part of the US will help build some recruiting lines to Dawson.

Coach Holbrook shared, “The reason I got into coaching was the impact coaches had on me through my life. If it wasn’t for sports, I really don’t know what I would have done with my life. I fell in love with the game of basketball as a player and I have now fell in love with teaching the game of basketball. My goal as a coach is what I call the spider web effect. Because my coach impacted my life and turned my life around, I want to be able to keep that going. If I can impact a student athlete’s life, I hope that when they get the chance to help someone, they will do the same. This all creates a large web of good people helping others who need it.”

Holbrook earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Idaho in 2017 with a double major in psychology and organizational sciences. He earned a Master’s Degree in athletic educational leadership from Dickinson State University in May, 2022.
