Bluefield State College has announced the permanent hiring of Interim Head Men’s Basketball Coach Derrick Price. Coach Price has been the Head Coach for the Big Blues for one season after being at rival, Bluefield College for 5 seasons as an Assistant. During his interim year as Coach, Price led the team to 8 wins, one more than the previous season. Coach Price was instrumental in turning around a team who did not win a game in December to a team who won 7 games in January and February including 3 of their last 5.

“I am honored to announce Derrick Price as our new Head Men’s Basketball Coach here at Bluefield State College. Derrick has been the Interim Head Coach for the last season and has shown that he is the right fit for the Men’s Basketball Program. Coach Price brings experience and passion to our Men’s Basketball Program. Please welcome Derrick Price to our BSC Family,” said Athletic Director John Lewis.

“It is a great honor and privilege to have the opportunity to lead this Bluefield State Program. We are slowly but surely putting together something special. I have great staff in place with Rodney Kasey and Avery Holliday. My staff is special because we all have a drive to recruit in the local area and well as making sure we specialize in player development. The opportunity to mentor players into being men on and off the court is the most important part of what we do here. The goal is to build a successful program, not just a successful team. My motto from day one has been ‘Let’s build this together, Brick by Brick,'” said Coach Price.

Coach Price has already been recruiting hard for Bluefield State College and now no longer having the interim tag, he can really help shape the Big Blues program. The entire Bluefield State Community is excited for seasons to come under Coach Price’s leadership.
