Jackson Named Kent State Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach

Kent State men’s basketball head coach Rob Senderoff has announced the hiring on Dante Jackson as an assistant coach.

Jackson comes to Kent State from Robert Morris, where he spent a season as an assistant coach on Andy Toole’s staff. He had previously served as an assistant coach at Air Force and Northern Kentucky, as well as a graduate assistant at Ohio and his alma mater, Xavier.

“We are excited to have Dante be a part of the program. He will do a great job working with our perimeter players and guards and has played with and coached a lot of great guards,” said Senderoff. “Dante is from Ohio. He knows the area well and has great recruiting connections that will be beneficial to the program. He is a great person as well as a great coach. He comes highly recommended from Andy Toole and his former coaches Chris Mack and Sean Miller.”

A highly-accomplished player at Xaiver (2007-11), Jackson played in the NCAA Tournament every year of his career with two Sweet 16 appearances and a trip to the Elite Eight. He totaled 795 points, 374 rebounds and 255 assists while helping the Musketeers win 107 games, including seven NCAA Tournament victories during his four-year career.

Jackson possesses knowledge of the Mid-American Conference from his time as a graduate assistant at Ohio during the Bobcats’ Sweet 16 run in the 2012 NCAA Tournament.

“The tradition here with Coach Senderoff and Coach Haut the past 20 years has been outstanding,” said Jackson. “It’s an exciting time to be at a program with so much tradition and to be in a league that is as grinding as the MAC is. I’m looking forward to working with our student-athletes and am grateful for the opportunity to be at Kent State.”

The Golden Flashes will feature a veteran backcourt next season with guards Jalen Avery and Jaylin Walker expected to start for the third consecutive year. Avery led the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio (5.04) this past season while Walker averaged a team-high 16.6 points per game while earning All-MAC Third Team honors.
