Jacksonville University Extends Jasick’s Contract

Jacksonville University has extended by four years the contract of head men’s basketball coach Tony Jasick, Chief Athletics Officer Dr. Donnie Horner said Wednesday.

Terms of the agreement will not be announced, but the extension has Jasick with the school through 2023.

“We are thrilled to extend Tony Jasick’s contract and be able to keep him and his staff at Jacksonville University for a long time,” Horner said. “The basketball cupboard was bare when Tony and his staff arrived, and the improvement of the squad both on and off the court in only two seasons has been remarkable.  Tony has embedded the right values in his team.  His players compete well in the classroom and athletically, are good citizens, and are synchronous with the University’s emphasis on excellence.”

Jasick’s team showed marked improvement this season, his second at the helm, finishing 16-16 overall, the first .500 record for JU men’s basketball since the 2010-11 season. The team was 8-6 in the Atlantic Sun Conference. The team was 10-22 (4-10) during his first year.

Last week, Jasick was named the 2016 National Association of Basketball Coaches UPS Division I District 3 Coach of the Year. District 3 includes all members of the A-Sun and the Big South conferences.

Jasick added the honor to his impressive career total that includes being named the “Hugh Durham Coach of the Year” for the 2013-14 season. The award is given each year to the top NCAA Division I mid-major coach at the conclusion of each season.

“I’m very appreciative for the opportunity to continue to build the program,” Jasick said. “We’re excited about the future within our program and the University as a whole.”
