With Michigan’s win earlier this week against Penn State, head coach John Beilein became the second coach in program history to reach 200 wins with the Wolverines, joining Johnny Orr, who is the all-time leader with 209. He now has a 751-445 record in his 38+ seasons as a head coach (Michigan, West Virginia, Richmond, Canisius, LeMoyne, Nazareth, and Erie CC).
He has recorded 20-plus win seasons on 20 occasions and has finished with a winning record in 32-of-38 seasons, placing him in the top 10 for career victories among active Division I head coaches.
Beilein has 17 career postseason appearances — 10 in the Division I NCAA Tournament, six in the NIT and one in the Division II NCAA Tournament. With the half dozen trips to the Big Dance with U-M, Beilein is one of 12 coaches to have taken four different schools to the NCAA Tournament — Canisius (1996), Richmond (1998), West Virginia (2005, ’06) and Michigan (2009, ’11, ’12, ’13, ’14, ’16).
He has guided U-M to six NCAA Tournament appearances, including helping the Wolverines make their return after an 11-year NCAA Tournament absence as well as a trip to the Final Four in 2013 following a 20-year wait.
