Johnson Steps Down as Men’s Basketball Coach at Citrus College

Citrus College Men’s Basketball Head Coach Patrick Johnson has stepped down effective immediately. Johnson will leave the Owls to move closer to his family in his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia.

“I want to first of all thank [Dean of Kinesiology and Athletics] Jody Wise and [Citrus College Superintendent/President] Dr. [Geraldine M.] Perri for the opportunity to lead this program over the last year. I am sad to leave, but have no doubt that our program will continue to enjoy success under the new head coach,” Johnson said. “Citrus is a special place full of great people, and I will always consider myself a part of the Citrus family. Go Owls!”

Johnson spent one season as the head man on the Owls’ sideline, guiding the 2015-2016 Men’s Basketball team all the way into the third round of the 2016 California Community College Athletic Association Southern California Regional Playoffs. Included in that was an upset of the #2 seeded San Bernardino Valley College in the second round. More importantly, Johnson helped five Owls from the 2015-2016 team to earn scholarship opportunities at four-year colleges.

“We are disappointed that Patrick has to step down from the program, but we are appreciative of the year that he gave us here at Citrus,” said Dean of Kinesiology and Athletics Jody Wise. “We wish Patrick the best of luck in his future endeavors.”

A Head Men’s Basketball Coach is expected to be announced shortly.
