Clark College Men’s Basketball Coach Alex Kirk announced to the team and the athletics staff over the weekend that he has resigned from his position. Kirk took a leave from the team in November to focus on the birth of his daughter. At that time, he thought he would return to Clark, but stated, “As other coaching opportunities have presented themselves this spring, we’ve decided that now is the time for a new challenge.”

Kirk called working with the program a privilege, and he enjoyed tremendous success as the Men’s basketball coach, including a Northwest Athletic Conference Basketball Championship in 2015. Kirk began with the program in 2012, and during his tenure with the Penguins had three 20-wins seasons in a row and were perennial title contenders. He leaves Clark College with a 91-30 record having amassed a 75.2-win percentage and three league titles. He also was instrumental in helping student athletes prepare for the next level in their athletic careers, sending several players on to four-year colleges and universities.
Athletic Director Chris Jacob said, “It has been a pleasure working with coach Kirk for the past two years. Watching a great coach leave is always difficult, but knowing that Coach Kirk had the best interest of the student athletes on his mind is all we ever ask of our coaches.”

The college is currently determining the next steps in finding a new coach to replace Kirk and hope to have someone in place before the end of the academic year.
