Lucas Named Men’s Basketball Director of Operations at Drake

Brian Lucas has joined the Drake University men’s basketball staff as the program’s director of basketball operations, head coach Ray Giacoletti announced Friday, July 15.

Lucas joins the Bulldogs after spending six seasons with the Oklahoma State University men’s basketball team as a video and operations coordinator.

“Brian has a tremendous pedigree and background coming from two winning programs at Oklahoma State and Florida,” Giacoletti said. “His experience working with Billy Donovan and Travis Ford has exposed him to great ideas and coaching. We’re excited to have him be a part of our program.”

“I’m excited for the opportunity to work for Coach Giacoletti at Drake University,” Lucas added. “He’s highly regarded in the college basketball community and has put together a tremendous staff. I look forward to being able to bring my experience and help continue to grow the program into one of the best in the Missouri Valley Conference.”

While at Oklahoma State, Lucas spearheaded the video program’s vision with updated state-of-the-art equipment, innovative video editing and statistical analysis of video.

Prior to arriving at Oklahoma State, Lucas spent four seasons at the University of Florida. While there he was the assistant video coordinator for the men’s program under Billy Donovan, a two-time NCAA Champion coach and current head coach of the NBA’s Oklahoma City Thunder for three seasons. Prior to joining the men’s staff, he was an assistant video coordinator for Florida’s women’s program under Carolyn Peck.

Lucas, a native of Selingsgrove, Pa., earned his bachelor’s degree in sports management from Florida in 2008 and received his master’s degree in sports management from UF in 2010.
