Following up on a rumor that HoopDirt.com posted back in late July (Daily Dirt – 7/22/15).

Nelson Albino has been named as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Connecticut College.  He will assist Head Coach Tom Satran with all phases of the program.

Albino arrives to New London with proven experience in the two major power conferences in the Division III ranks, the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) and the University Athletic Association (UAA).

For the past two years, Albino has served as an assistant coach with New York University in the UAA. He played a key role in all aspects of the successful operation with the Violets that posted a 35-19 (.648) record during his stay in Manhattan.

Prior to his arrival in New York, Albino was an assistant with Colby College in Waterville, Maine for two years. In his second season with the program, Albino helped the Mules make a two-game improvement in the NESCAC Standings en route to their appearance in the conference championship tournament.

From 2009-2011, Albino spent two seasons in the Division I ranks as the Director of Basketball Operations at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. He handled the administrating duties of the Highlander program, including film exchange and alumni relations while also assisting in recruitment.

Albino earned his Bachelor’s Degree in sociology from Drew University. A four-year contributor and leader with the Ranger basketball program, Albino served as captain during his senior campaign. Albino excelled in the classroom, earning All-Academic honors from the Landmark Conference during his senior year and graduating with honors.

Albino also competed internationally as a member of the USA Select Team at the 2009 Club Continental Cup. He started at point guard for a squad that played five games against Italy, posting a 3-2 record.

“We are fortunate to have Coach Albino join us,” Connecticut College Head Men’s Basketball Coach Tom Satran said. “He has worked for some very successful and well respected coaches and will be a perfect role model for our student athletes. I am eager to begin working with him.”

Albino, who attended high school at St. Peter’s Prep in Jersey City, N.J., is looking forward to an exciting season of Camel basketball in New London.

“I am excited to be joining the Connecticut College basketball family and for the opportunity to coach at such a prestigious institution,” Albino said. “I’m looking forward to coaching again in the NESCAC, one of the top conferences in Division III, and working with the fine Camel student-athletes. I have admired Coach Satran’s coaching style over the years and I’m eager to get started and help contribute to the success of the Camel program.”
