A few quick items…. It sounds like Jerry Hobbie is the front runner for the open assistant spot at SMU. He spent the past three seasons at Houston. Former St. John’s assistant Fred Quartlebaum is also in the mix, but it sounds like it will go to Hobbie. Expect the official announcement after 8/1. DII

Indiana State rumor….

I’ve heard that Vincennes JC head coach David Ragland has resigned and will join the staff at Indiana State. Ragland had been the head coach at VU for the past two seasons, and had been an assistant for three seasons before that. He apparently told his players of the move over the July 4th holiday.

UTEP rumor….

My sources have told me that UTEP head coach Tim Floyd has hired Jason Niblett as an assistant coach. Niblett had been the head coach at Heat Basketball Academy in Martinsville, VA.
