University of North Alabama men’s head basketball coach Tony Pujol has announced the hiring of Tom Berryman as assistant coach. The Florence, Ala., native comes to UNA from Southeast Missouri State and has 11 years of coaching experience.

“Tom is an outstanding basketball coach,” said Pujol. “His attention to detail and his preparation will not only make my job easier, but also everyone in our program. Tom and his wife, Kinsey, will be a perfect fit for UNA on campus and in the community.”

Prior to serving as director of basketball operations at Southeast Missouri, Berryman spent two seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Charleston. He also spent four years as a member of Anthony Grant’s staff at the University of Alabama.

Before joining the UA program, Berryman spent three years coaching in the high school ranks. He spent two seasons (2008-2010) at Northridge High School in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where he served as the head freshman coach and varsity assistant. Berryman was also the head junior varsity coach and a varsity assistant at Holt High School for the 2007-08 season.

During the summer of 2006, Berryman worked as an intern at IMG Basketball Academy in Bradenton, Florida. During his time there, he worked under the tutelage of Mike Moreau, one of the nation’s top skill development coaches. Berryman assisted Moreau in skill development workouts for numerous professional and collegiate players. He also served as an instructor for IMG’s high school summer camps.

Berryman earned two degrees from the University of Alabama. He graduated cum laude in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in economics. In 2012, he completed his master’s degree in human performance, which included an emphasis in sport management.
