OFFICIAL: Cameron Dollar Dismissed as Head Basketball Coach at Seattle

Seattle University announced Monday that men’s basketball head coach Cameron Dollar will not return for the 2017-18 season. Dollar recently completed his eighth season with the Redhawks.

“I am grateful to Coach Dollar and his staff for their dedication and commitment to the mission and values of Seattle University, especially with their emphasis on the personal development of the young men who have come through the program,” said Seattle U Director of Athletics Shaney Fink. “However, after thorough evaluation, I have decided that a change in leadership is necessary in order to achieve the full potential of our men’s basketball program.”

This past season, Dollar led the Redhawks to a 13-17 overall record and 5-9 in the Western Athletic Conference. Over his eight years, Dollar finished with a 107-138 overall record and 27-49 in five seasons (2012-13 through 2016-17) of WAC play, reaching the championship game of the WAC Tournament in 2014-15.

Seattle U participated in the College Basketball Invitational in back-to-back seasons. The CBI run in 2014-15 marked the first Division I postseason appearance for Seattle U men’s basketball since 1969. In guiding the program through the return to NCAA Division I status, Dollar had three seasons with 15 or more victories, including a high of 18 wins in 2014-15.

“Cameron Dollar has represented Seattle U and Redhawk men’s basketball with class, professionalism and integrity,” said SU President Stephen V. Sundborg. “He is highly respected by his players and enjoys tremendous goodwill from the SU community. While we have not seen the progress we had hoped we would by this point, I am deeply appreciative of all that he has accomplished with our student-athletes and the University’s return to Division I.”

Prior to his tenure at Seattle U, Dollar spent seven seasons at Washington as an assistant coach.

A national search for a new head coach will begin immediately.
