OFFICIAL: Kaigler named Head Basketball Coach at Colby-Sawyer

Following-up on something that I mentioned in today’s DAILY DIRT, Dan Kaigler has officially been named as the new Head Men’s Basketball Coach at D3 Colby-Sawyer College (NH). Here is the official release by the school:

Director of Athletics Mitch Capelle announced Monday that Dan Kaigler has been named Colby-Sawyer’s next head men’s basketball coach. Kaigler becomes just the third head coach in program history, taking the reins from Bill Foti, who piloted the Chargers program for the past 29 seasons.

“It is truly an honor to be selected as the next Head Coach to lead this Colby-Sawyer Men’s Basketball program to new heights,” said Kaigler. “I want to say thank you to President Sue Stuebner, Athletic Director Mitch Capelle and the entire athletic administration for entrusting me with this great program. I am extremely excited to for the opportunity to work with this special group of student-athletes and build on the success that Coach Foti has had in place for so long.”

Kaigler comes to Colby-Sawyer after spending last season as the top assistant at the University of Rochester in New York. While at Rochester, Kaigler helped guide the Yellow Jackets through a COVID-19 shortened season that finished with a record of 4-2.  Prior to Rochester, Kaigler was an assistant at his alma mater Le Moyne College for the 2018-19 season. While with the Dolphins, he was tasked with a number of duties, including recruiting, skill development, and film breakdown. Kaigler was an assistant on a Le Moyne team that ended the season with a 18-10 record, including a 14-6 NE10 record. This record was good enough for a DII NCAA Tournament appearance.

“We are excited to welcome Dan to the Colby-Sawyer men’s basketball family,” said Capelle. “Throughout the interview process, Dan impressed us with his passion, drive and vision for the game of basketball and our program. He is truly a rising star and we are fortunate to have him on our team. Dan will be a tireless worker on and off the court and we are excited for him build on the strong foundations of the program moving forward.”

As a three-year student-athlete at Le Moyne, Kaigler averaged 7.2 points and 3.5 rebounds a game. He appeared in 87 games for the Dolphins, including 10 starts. The Syracuse, N.Y. native was a part of three NCAA appearances and one NE10 conference championship. The Dolphins also were NCAA East Regional champions in 2017-18. He also spent his freshman season playing for Gannon University where he and the rest of the Golden Knights won the PSAC title and made an NCAA Tournament appearance.

“We will be committed to providing a positive student-athlete experience, where we will grow and develop both on and off the court,” concluded Kaigler.
