I mentioned this move over the weekend (D3 Search Updates) – it’s now official. Kyle McGee has been named as the head basketball coach at Notre Dame of Maryland. Here’s the official release from the school:
Kyle McGee has been named the head coach of the Notre Dame of Maryland men’s basketball program, Director of Athletics Dr. Ashley Wagner announced this afternoon.
“We are excited to have Kyle lead the Notre Dame of Maryland men’s basketball program into its next chapter!” exclaimed Dr. Wagner. “Kyle stood out to us during this process due to his strong recruiting background and his commitment to culture building.”
McGee becomes the second head coach in program history as he takes over for TJ Jordan, who started the program in the 2023-24 season.
“I’m extremely grateful and excited for the opportunity to be the Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Notre Dame of Maryland,” said McGee. “Becoming a head coach has always been a goal of mine, and I’m thankful to everyone at Notre Dame who believed in me and gave me this opportunity.”
After a 3-19 debut season in 2023-24, the Gators have won 16 games each of the past two seasons. In 2024-25, the Gators made it to the United East Tournament championship.
McGee joins NDMU from Division II Millersville, where he served as an assistant coach for the past two seasons. In his time at Millersville, he helped lead the Marauders to the PSAC Final Four while developing PSAC Eastern Division Player of the Year Day Waters this past season.
“Our goal here is to build something that lasts. We want NDMU basketball to consistently compete at the top of the United East and eventually become a program that expects to compete for championships every year, said McGee. “At the end of the day, we want to stack diplomas and championships.”
Before his time in the ‘Ville, McGee served as an assistant coach at Division III Elizabethtown for three seasons, where he helped the Blue Jays to their most conference wins since they joined the Landmark Conference in 2010; the Blue Jays also received a pair of NABC Team of Academic Excellence awards in his tenure.
“On the court, I want us to be a team that people enjoy watching and our players enjoy being apart of,” said McGee. “We’re going to play fast, be aggressive, be energized and be very aggressive making teams uncomfortable. We want people to know exactly what Notre Dame basketball is about when they watch us play.”
He began his collegiate coaching career as a volunteer assistant at Lycoming College, where he helped them to an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2020.
McGee played for Elizabethtown after starting his playing career at Centenary College in New Jersey. He graduated with his bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from King’s College.
“I’m just ready to get started. I’m excited to meet with our guys, get on the court with them and start building relationships,” said McGee. “There’s a lot of work ahead of us, but that’s the exciting part. I’m extremely thankful for this opportunity, and I’m ready to give everything I have to NDMU.”
