OFFICIAL: Nee named Head Basketball Coach at Northern Oklahoma Tonkawa

Following-up on something that I first mentioned back on 6/6 (JUCO DIRT). Patrick Nee has officially been named as the head men’s basketball coach at Northern Oklahoma Tonkawa. Here’s the release from NOC:

Northern Oklahoma College has named Patrick Nee as the new Mavs’ men’s basketball coach, athletic director Alan Foster announced Thursday.

Nee comes to NOC from Allen County Community College in Iola, Kansas, where he was an assistant for a team that finished 28-7 and reached the NJCAA Division 2 National Tournament.

“I am extremely excited to join the Maverick family and all the rich tradition at NOC of not only winning but winning with great integrity,” Nee said.  “My goal is to continue the program the Weiberg family worked so hard to build.  I’m ready to get started.”

NOC Athletic Director Alan Foster is excited for what Nee brings to the Maverick program.

“We had a very deep and talented pool of candidates to pick from but after matching our teaching requirements with the coaching position we felt like Patrick is the right choice to lead the program now,” Foster said.  “We believe he will continue the string of success we have had in the men’s program.   I look forward to working with someone of Patrick’s experience and professionalism.”

Before going to Allen County Community College, he served one season at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in the WAC Conference. Nee has a total of 19 years coaching experience at the collegiate level including 16 years in the Jayhawk Conference.

Nee has head coaching experience at Garden City Community College (2018-20), Independence Community College (2009-13) and Highland Community College (2006-09), where he won 140 games.

Overall, Nee has sent 25 players to the Division I level, including players who have signed with teams in conferences including the ACC, Big 12, BIG EAST, SEC, Pac-12, Atlantic 10, Conference USA, and Mountain West

Nee has additional coaching experience as an assistant coach at Seward County Community College (2013-17), Independence (2004-06), Hargrave Military Prep (2003-04) and Central Florida Community College (2002-03).

Nee began his playing career at Monmouth before transferring to Johnson County Community College. He then earned a Bachelor of General Studies in Communications in 2003 at the University of Central Oklahoma. He went on to complete a Master of Science in Physical Education Teaching and Coaching at Ohio University in 2015.

Nee’s father, Danny, is a long-time college basketball coach who won 461 games as a head coach at Ohio, Nebraska, Robert Morris, Duquesne, and the United States Merchant Marines Academy. The elder Nee is in the University of Nebraska Hall of Fame for compiling a 254-190 mark and leading the team to five NCAA Tournament appearances, the 1994 Big Eight Tournament Championship, and the 1996 NIT Championship.

Nee replaces Brad Witherspoon who finished 21-8 in his one season at NOC Tonkawa.  He is now the head coach at Dodge City Community College.
