OFFICIAL: Rutigliano Named Assistant at Lipscomb

Following up on a rumor that HoopDirt.com posted earlier this morning.  It is now official – Sean Rutigliano has joined the Lipscomb men’s hoops team as assistant coach.

“We’re thrilled that Sean is joining our program and look forward to working closely with him,” said Lipscomb head coach Casey Alexander. “He has coached in three successful programs, for men that I have great respect for, and he is a great fit for the values we want the Lipscomb program to reflect.”

Rutigliano helped lead the Army Black Knights to three consecutive 15-win seasons, a mark that was last accomplished by Bob Knight in 1967-70.

“I want to thank Coach Alexander, Philip Hutcheson and the entire Lipscomb administration for this wonderful and humbling opportunity,” said Rutigliano. “I have a tremendous amount of respect for Lipscomb Basketball as well as Lipscomb University. I am excited to work for such an excellent coach and person in Coach Alexander. I also look forward to working with rest of the talented coaching staff and support staff. I am extremely blessed to have this amazing opportunity.

“I also want to send a big thank you to the staff at Army including head coach Zach Spiker and director of athletics Boo Corrigan for my opportunity there and wish them the best.”

Before joining the Army West Point staff in 2011, Rutigliano spent two seasons at Ouachita Baptist along with a year and a half stint at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

“Sean is an energetic, tireless, team player,” said Alexander. “We expect those qualities to make a real difference for the young men in our program.”

A native of Suffern, New York, Rutigliano graduated magna cum laude from Cortland State with a bachelor’s degree in education in 2007 before adding a master’s degree in the same discipline from Ball State in 2010.

Rutigliano replaces Dwight Evans on the staff, who retired from coaching last month.
