Pfeiffer University has named Pete Schoch has been named the 11th head men’s basketball coach in program history. Schoch spent the past four seasons on the bench for the Falcons and was promoted from assistant coach to associate head coach last summer.
“Pete is a great recruiter, has an outstanding basketball mind and loves the style of play that’s become our trademark,” said Vice President for Athletics Bob Reasso. “It’s very important for us and our fans to play this up-tempo style that is hard to play against and gets everyone in our gym excited to watch. We believe Pete is going to do an exceptional job and carry on our great tradition of basketball.”
Schoch had a legendary high school coaching career before coming to Misenheimer. Schoch spent 13 years as the head coach at Father Gabriel Richard High School in Michigan and led the program to five Detroit Catholic League Conference Championships, eight District Championships, one Regional Title and a Michigan State Tournament Final Four appearance. Schoch was named Detroit Catholic League Coach of the Year in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and was twice named the Ann Arbor News Men’s Coach of the Year in 2006 and 2008.
Schoch was hired to the Pfeiffer staff by former head coach Jeremy Currier in 2013. He has been a top recruiter for the program and also helped with scouting, practice planning and player development and has helped take the Pfeiffer basketball program to an elite level. Over the past two seasons, Pfeiffer has an overall record of 47-9 and its winning percentage of 84.0 is second to Queens University for the highest winning percentage of any program in the state of North Carolina.
A year ago, Schoch helped the Falcons to its first Conference Carolinas Regular Season Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance since 2005. This past season, Schoch assisted in replacing four 1,000-point scorers and posted a 21-4 record in the first year of its transition to NCAA Division III and the USA South Athletic Conference.
