Quinn Named Assistant at Loyola

Maryland native Trevor Quinn will join the Loyola University Maryland men’s basketball coaching staff as an assistant coach for the 2015-2016 season, Head Coach G.G. Smith announced today.

“We are happy to welcome Trevor to the Loyola family,” Smith said. “Trevor comes to Loyola with a great background in the Baltimore area and experience at Jacksonville and Florida State. He will be a great asset in working with our big men on the court and with the team as we build our program on and off the floor.”

Quinn, who prepped at Severna Park High School in Anne Arundel County and later played at nearby Goucher College, comes to Loyola after spending last season as an assistant coach at Our Lady of Mount Carmel High School in Baltimore County.

He was a member of the basketball staff at Jacksonville University from 2007-2014 where he was an assist coach for six seasons after serving as the program’s director of basketball operations for a year.

“It is great to be back in the Baltimore area and a member of Coach Smith’s staff,” said Quinn. “I am looking forward to helping make an impact on the team and its players on and off the court, as well as identifying and recruiting future Greyhounds.”

Quinn helped the Dolphins win two Atlantic Sun regular-season titles and advance to postseason play three times with a pair of NIT bids and one CollegeInsider Postseason Tournament appearance. During his time at Jacksonville, he worked with five players who went on to professional careers.

Aside from his on-court and recruiting responsibilities, Quinn oversaw the team’s academic affairs that resulted in 19-of-19 seniors receiving their degrees from Jacksonville and eight players earning Academic All-Atlantic Sun recognition.

Prior to serving as Jacksonville’s director of basketball operations in 2007-2008, Quinn was a graduate assistant on Leonard Hamilton’s staff at Florida State University from 2005-2007 in seasons the Seminoles advanced to the NIT.

In 2014-2015, as a member of the staff at Mount Carmel, Quinn helped guide the Cougars to a 32-10 record and the program’s first-ever Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association “A” Conference title and invitational to the renowned Alhambra Catholic Invitational Tournament.

Quinn was a four-year starter at Goucher, an NCAA Division III school less than five miles from Loyola in Towson, Maryland. He served as the Gophers’ captain as a sophomore, junior and senior and helped Goucher to a 60-45 record in his three seasons. He still holds the school record for assists (138) and assists per game (5.1) in a season, set as a senior in 2004-2005, and he is second all-time at Goucher in assists (402).

He graduated from Goucher with a bachelor of arts in communications in 2005 and later earned his master’s of sports management in 2007 from Florida State.

Quinn was a standout guard at Severna Park High School where he was named the Most Valuable Player of the Annapolis Capital Gazette All-Star Classic in 2001. That season, as a senior, he earned All-Anne Arundel County honors from The Washington Post after averaging 13.7 points, 8.6 rebounds and 5.9 assists for Severna Park. He left the school as the all-time leader in rebounds (849) and second in points (926).
