In yesterday’s Daily Dirt, I mentioned that Justin Gray was the “name to keep an eye on” at Western Carolina. Now, there are multiple reports, including one from Jeff Goodman, which say that Gray will in fact be named as the new head basketball coach at Western Carolina.
Gray had been an assistant on Pat Kelsey’s staff at Winthrop for the past two seasons, and had moved with Kelsey to the College of Charleston last month. As a player, Gray was Carmelo Anthony’s roommate at Oak Hill Academy (VA), and was teammates with Chris Paul at Wake Forest. He played professionally overseas from 2006-18.
Gray is expected to sign a five-year deal, which will be announced later today.
More on this when it becomes official.
