REPORT: Old Dominion to name Maryland assistant as next Head Basketball Coach

According to a report from ESPN’s Jeff Borzello, Old Dominion is expected to name Maryland assistant Mike Jones as their new head men’s basketball coach.

Jones is a 1995 ODU grad, who scored over 1100 points and led the Monarchs to two NCAA tournaments. This season is his first on Kevin Willard’s staff at Maryland after spending two seasons as the associate head coach at Virginia Tech.

Prior to his time at Virginia Tech, Jones spent 19 seasons as the head coach at DeMatha where he went 511-119 (.811).

Jones would replace Jeff Jones, who announced his retirement on Monday.

Old Dominion has scheduled a 10:45 a.m. presser for tomorrow to make the announcement. to introduce its new men’s basketball head coach.
