This move has been rumored for over a month, but new Memphis head coach Penny Hardaway confirmed today that he will hire former Toronto Raptors and Minnesota Timberwolves head coach Sam Mitchell as an assistant. Mitchell, who captured the 2007 NBA Coach of the Year award with the Raptors, spent thirteen seasons in the league as a player (1989-2002) where he scored over 8,600 points. According to the Commercial Appeal, Hardaway made the announcement at a media appearance earlier today.
