Ryan Odom Tabs Colby Lewis as New Director of Recruiting/Program Development

UMBC Head Men’s Basketball Coach Ryan Odom announced the appointment of Colby Lewis as the program’s new Director of Recruiting/Program Development.

Lewis replaces Griff Aldrich, who was named Longwood University’s new head men’s basketball coach in late March.

“I’m excited about the addition of Colby Lewis to our staff,” Odom said. “From the day I first met Colby in Charlotte, it was apparent that he had a passion for basketball and serving others. Colby understands and is committed to our culture at UMBC and he will bring a winning mentality every day.”

Lewis just completed his fourth season as a member of the Charlotte 49ers coaching staff and his third campaign as the video coordinator. He served as the 49ers men’s basketball program’s associate director of operations for the 2014-15 season.

Lewis joined the coaching staff after spending the 2013-14 season as a graduate manager with the 49ers men’s basketball program.

A fan favorite during his four-year career at Charlotte, Lewis played for the 49ers from 2009-13. He saw action in a career-high 17 games as a sophomore in 2011. As a senior, Lewis helped the 49ers win 21 games while capturing the Great Alaska Shootout title and earning a berth in the NIT. During his career, he was a two-time recipient of the Charlotte’s Charles Hayward Award.

The Statesville, North Carolina native earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing from UNC Charlotte, December 2012. In the summer of 2014, he earned a Master’s of Business Administration from UNC Charlotte.

Lewis married the former Ginny Johnson, who played tennis for the Charlotte 49ers from 2009-13, in the summer of 2017.
