Oakland University Men’s Basketball has announced the promotion of Colin Shannon to Director of Basketball Operations ahead of the 2022-23 season.
“Colin has been with me for six years as a student manager and a graduate assistant,” said Kampe, “You reward loyalty and hard work when it’s done well. Colin deserves this chance and is well prepared for it.”
Shannon spent the past eight months as a Graduate Assistant within the Golden Grizzlies’ program, developing video scouting reports for each opponent as well as creating analytical reports for coaches which would include lineup optimization, tracking sets points for each possession, shot charts, and specialty tracking depending on the team’s priorities.
“I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity to be the Director of Basketball Operations. As a two-time Oakland grad, it’s a surreal experience for me to be in this position,” said Shannon, “Without mentorship from past and present staff members, I would never have been able to achieve this. I am especially grateful for Coach Kampe who has gone above and beyond to help me in any way he can. I’m excited to get started and help this program continue its winning ways.”
Prior to that, Shannon was an Assistant Video Coordinator for Oakland as well as Head Freshman and Junior Varsity Basketball Coach at Royal Oak Shrine High School. During his undergraduate stint at OU, Shannon was a Manager for the Men’s Basketball team.
Shannon earned his Master of Communication from Oakland in March as the new hire currently resides in Huntington Woods, Michigan.
